Good Health Guide - Injuries to the skin

Athlete’s foot and fungal infections

Symptoms:

  • Itching
  • Redness
  • Weepy skin
  • Flaking skin and blistering

Potential causes:

  • Mycosis infection
  • Proneness to fungal infections

What you can do:

As fungal infections are contagious, avoid skin contact with those affected and only use your own towel. Avoid walking around barefoot in swimming pools and saunas, changing rooms and even hotel rooms. As athlete’s foot spreads particularly well in damp environments, dry your feet thoroughly after bathing or showering, including between your toes. Also avoid having sweaty feet and wear socks and shoes made from breathable materials. In the event of serious fungal infections or if your nails have already been infected, consult a doctor.
