Good Health Guide - Injuries to the skin

Scars

Symptoms:

  • Red or pale scar tissue
  • Tissue shrinkage- or hardening
  • Bulge formation

Potential causes:

  • Result of large, deep injuries to the skin
  • Result of burns
  • Stitches after an operation
  • Wound healing disturbances

What you can do:

Scar tissue forms a natural wound closure that needs to be left in peace for normal, smooth skin tissue to form. To prevent visible scars, you should enable wounds to heal undisturbed. To do so, avoid re-injuring yourself, tension and strain, irritation from tightly fitting clothing and dirt in the area of the wound. You should also always protect fresh scars from direct sunlight. Regularly massaging in scar products keeps the scar tissue elasticated, prevents excessive spreading and, when used patiently, helps the scar regress with time.
