Sunburn and burns

How you can prevent burns

In households with children, you can reduce the risk of burns by installing a safety guard in front of cookers. Do not leave candles or open flames within the reach of small children. When lighting a barbecue, use conventional fire lighters rather than spirits.

First aid for mild burns

Treat the affected area immediately with a burns gel. In acute cases, cover the area in question with a dressing soaked in cold water. Only if no suitable burns gel is available, run the burnt area under cold water until the pain subsides. Do this for at least 15 minutes. Never use ice to cool a burn. If hot liquids have been spilt on clothing, remove the clothing items immediately to prevent heat accumulation.
