The conjunctiva is often very sensitive to external irritants and unilateral strains.
Symptoms
- The feeling of having ‘something in one’s eye’
- Red eyes
- Stinging and itching
- Increased lacrimation (i.e. production, secretion and shedding of tears)
- Secretion of a mucous substance (frequently but not always)
This may be due to:
- Bright light, high ozone exposure and air-conditioners
- Draughts and dust
- Excessive strain through reading or long hours at the computer screen
- Contact lenses
